Spode first produced their "Christmas Tree" pattern in 1938 after a plucky Fifth Avenue-based salesman named Sydney Thompson felt that Americans needed a fresh Christmas pattern. "Christmas Tree" with its iconic decorated Christmas tree topped with merry Saint Nick was designed by Spode art staff, Harold Holdway, and it remains a classic fixture on so many holiday tables.
