Kokeshi are classic wooden Japanese figurines that have been crafted for more than 150 years as children’s toy. They are handmade by artisans from wood, with a simple trunk and head with a few details to their faces and garments. One interesting characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. Since the 1950s, kokeshi makers have signed their work, usually on the bottom and sometimes on the back. This sweet vintage Kokeshi doll featuring a darling swaddled baby was made in the 1960s and is signed and measures 3”x3.5”.
